Nottdance

Although I won't be down there for another week, Nottdance kicked off today. I know that Saucy Jack Webb is going there as part of his tour, and that there are events at various sizes across the city: I am rather hoping that they'll be able to bring a similar programme north at some point.

When I get there, here's a few highlights I am hoping to catch.

Sideways Rain by Alias, a hypnotic performance from an award-winning company.  An international hit following sell-out performances earlier this year at Sadlers Wells Theatre, dancers cross the stage, then again, tirelessly. They walk, run, fall and rise in an exhilarating, sensual experience that depicts the human condition and the evolution of man. Superb simplicity.  Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March, 8pm.  Tickets £8.50 - £18.

Spiced with the music of ABBA, Pet Shop Boys and Michael Jackson, Ship of Fools by Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor confronts a woman and two men as the boundaries that separate them are crossed, their personal baggage falls apart and everything becomes exposed.    Sunday 17 March, 7.30pm.    Lakeside Arts Centre

In his performance Apnea, Rodrigo Sobarzo draws on the breathtaking world of sports divers and escape artists, pushing the physical and human boundaries to create a visual and immersive experience of air and the act of breathing.  Saturday 16 March, 7.30pm,  Tickets £12/£9/£6.  Lakeside Arts Centre.
